For many years, ESCHA has been offering a wide choice of connectors and cable qualities for Industrial Ethernet applications. These cable qualities are suitable for medium and high mechanical stresses as well as robotic applications. Flexibility and mobility are particularly important in this area. Due to rising customer demands for a cost-effective solution for applications with low mechanical stresses, we are now rounding off our portfolio and offering a corresponding PVC-cable called S5200.

PNO-compliant and data transmission according to Cat5e

The new cable quality from ESCHA is PNO-compliant and perfectly suitable for applications in which drag-chain- and torsion properties are not important. We are already presenting a comprehensive product portfolio with M8-, M12-, and RJ45 connectors at the market launch. All components with the new cable quality guarantee a reliable data transmission according to Cat5e and meet the tightness requirements of protection classes IP67 and IP68.

New EtherCAT-cable

As of now, ESCHA offers a flexible EtherCAT-cable with yellow outer jacket which guarantees a safe and reliable data transmission according to Cat5e.

ESCHA is well-known for a fast and flexible implementation of current customer requirements to its standard portfolio. Our new EtherCAT-cable with yellow outer jacket is just one of many examples. The use of a yellow cable is particularly mandatory in automobile production, but it is also increasingly recommended in many other applications.

High flexibility and safe data transmission

Our new cable called S1329 guarantees an industry suitable data transmission according to Cat5e and meets the real-time requirements according to IEC 61158. Due to its flexible structure, it is drag-chain suitable and can withstand more than 5 million bending cycles. Different version with M8- (four-pole), M12- (four-pole, D-coded), and RJ45 connectors are available now. Thanks to their UL-certification you can use the new EtherCAT-components without hesitation on the North American Market. Furthermore, we guarantee you the tightness requirements of protection classes IP67 and IP68.

Field-wireable connectors ae used wherever a high degree of flexibility is required. For instance in case of initially unknown cable lengths or panel feedthroughs. However, these often have two weaks compared to overmolded connectors:

  • Their installation requires a great deal of sensitivity is therefore more complex.
  • They are much larger and therefore require more installation space.

The new and extremely compact field-wireable M12-connectors from ESCHA are a perfect solution. They feature crimp-contacts that can be assembled quickly and easily with a crimping tool. Thanks to their slim and compact housing, they take up less space and are therefore particularly suitable for space-critical applications.

Two versions for a variety of applications

As of now, you can get the new field-wireable M12-connectors from ESCHA in two versions: A-coded variants are designed to meet the requirements of sensor/actuator wiring, while D-coded variants guarantee permanent data transmission according to Cat5e. Both variants are adapted for cable diameters from 4.5mm to 8mm and wire-cross-sections between 0.25mm² and 1mm². This means that they cover a very wide range of cables and can be used in a variety of applications.

Without any problem, you can use the field-wireable connectors in an ambient temperature range from -40°C to +90°C. In screwed status, they meet the tightness requirements of protection class IP67. A realiable 360°-shielding ensures secure data- and signal transmission.

Crimping tool and locator

The corresponding crimping tool and the required locator are also available from ESCHA. Both accessory products are exactly adapted to the requirements of the field-wireable connectors and guarantee a smooth assembly.

The food industry sets high demands in terms of hygiene and process security. These demands can be transferred one-to-one to connectors and cables. To withstand aggressive cleaning- and detergent agents, it is common to refer to special plastics or V4A stainless-steel as material. As of now, ESCHA offers connectors with cost-effective plastic locking nuts in Hygienic Design, abandoning the comparably expensive stainless-steel locking nuts.

The new plastic locking nuts developed by ESCHA are extremely robust and can be tightened by hand as well as with a torque wrench. Afterwards they fulfil the protection standards according to IP67, IP68, and IP69. Due to their unique plastics compound they are resistant to Ecolab detergents. Their Hygienic Design prevents the formation of dirt pockets and residues. Therefore, connectors with plastic locking nut can be used in the product contact zone without more ado.

The new plastic locking nuts are available for M12-connectors in three, four-, or five-pole version. There are three cable qualities at your disposal. Additionally, you can choose between male and female as well as straight and angled variants.

More and more compact installations require similar compact interfaces – not only for data- and signal transmission, but also for the power supply. The industry-proven M12-interface has become the new and compact benchmark for power supply over the recent years. Since 2015, you get M12 power components from ESCHA in different coding-types and for different voltage-ranges.

Five-pole L-coding with functional ground

As of now, you get new variants, meeting the demands of the Profibus User Organization (PNO). PNO-compliant connectivity from ESCHA disposes of a standard-corresponding five-pole L-coding with one contact for functional ground. To distinguish from other M12 power connectors, PNO-compliant components have a grey cable and grey contact-carriers. M12 power connectivity from ESCHA facilitates a safe and reliable power transmission of up to 63V DC at a current rating of up to 16A, while meeting IP67 and IP68 protection classes.

Power follows Bus

Next to single-ended- and double-ended cord sets as well as receptacles for front-wall- and back-wall mounting, ESCHA offers compact power splitters in H-, h-, and T housing-styles. With these splitters you can easily realize a decentralized power wiring following the bus wiring. We call this ‘Power follows Bus’

Plastic locking nuts dispose of a distinctive advantage over stainless steel locking nuts: They are a cost-effective, but no means a cheap alternative. Due to high-quality plastics, they are media- and temperature resistant and are perfectly suitable for applications in the field of mobile automation. In this environment, containments with pressurised water, mud or oil are typical. Additionally, it is predominated by extremely high temperatures in the summer and extremely low temperatures in the winter. Plastic locking nuts and grip bodies from ESCHA can easily be cleaned and withstand temperatures from -30°C to +90°C. Furthermore, UV stabilizers prevent them getting porous or rough.

Four colors enhance clarity

You can get the plastic locking nuts in black, grey, red or blue. This helps you to easily mark, match and differentiate the connectors in the end. Clarity in the application enhances noticeably and mismatching while mounting can be avoided.

Through their unique design, you can tighten the plastic locking nuts by hand as well as with a torque wrench. Afterwards, they meet standard IEC 61076-2-101 and fulfil the high protection degrees according to IP67 and IP68.

The ESCHA Group has generated a consolidated total turnover at around 70 million Euros in the fiscal year 2019. The tense economic situation in the machine-building and automation industry caused the first drop in turnover in six years. In contrast, other markets, such as renewables and transportation, developed positively. The number of employees declined slightly. In 2019, 850 employees worked for our company group worldwide. That is fifty fewer than in 2018.

We were not quite able to achieve our revenue target for 2019 and missed the original target by around three percent. The negative impact of trade tariffs, the general insecurity concerning the Brexit and the structural transformation in the automotive industry have affected the general market situation and have left their marks on our company.

Outlook into the future

At the same time, we are cautiously optimistic about the future. The digitalization and automation of the industry offer ESCHA plenty of opportunities in the future: There is a cross-industry trend towards more participants and higher data volumes. Additionally, there is a rising demand for high-quality manufactured connectivity in the fields of intralogistics, renewables, and transportation.

At SPS 2019, we show new L-coded, five-pole versions of our M12x1-power-connectors with grey cable and grey contact carriers, meeting the current PNO-demands. All new single-ended- and double-ended cord sets as well as receptacles and splitters facilitate a power transmission of up to 63V DC at a current rating of up to 16A. With ESCHA M12x1-power-components you can easily realize a decentralized power wiring following your bus wiring.

Safety standards in the bus- and rail area are very high. All materials used in this application environment have to meet specific approvals. The two international standards DIN EN 45545-2 and DIN EN 50155 are decisive for connectors and cables. These characterize fire performance respectively mechanical stresses, connectors and cables have to meet.

For the first time and exclusively at ESCHA, you can obtain a cable-quality, which meets these important standards and simultaneously resists up to 1 million double-strokes. So far, there has been no other cable on the market combining these features.

High bending loads and absolute reliability

The new cable called S5555 is particularly suited for door applications or entrance systems. In this environment, the cable is exposed to high bending loads. At the same time, it has to be absolutely reliable so that doors open and close as well as steps retract and extend properly.

S5555 is available as connection- or junction cable with M8x1- or M12x1 connectors. Optionally, you can order a threaded grip-body, which facilitates fitting a protective hose. All products fulfil the high requirements of protection class IP67.

About EtherCAT P

EtherCAT P is an extension of the EtherCAT-technology facilitating the use of the four-wire standard cable not only for data transmission but also for power supply leading to a cost-effective and compact wiring as well as low system budget. The recently developed P-coding averts accidental connection of standard-EtherCAT-slaves.

At market launch, we offer you a comprehensive EtherCAT-P-program consisting of connection- and junction cables as well as matching receptacles respectively available in straight or angled housing styles as male or female versions. All components are adapted for a power transmission up to 4A at concurrent Fast-Ethernet-transmission up to 100Mbit/s. The black-red cable is available as AWG22- and AWG24-variants.

We have extended our M12x1-product program for power transmission. At ESCHA we designate this approach as ‘POWER follows Bus’.

The trend towards compact power supply via M12x1

As electronic devices are getting more and more compact, there is a rising demand for similar compact power supply via the standardized and industrially proven M12x1- interface according to IEC 61076-2-111. As a supplement to the already available connection- and junction cables in overmolded or field-wireable versions as well as to the T-, H-, and h-junctions, device interfaces in several variants are now available. Namely with:

  • S-coding | 630V, 12A
  • T-coding | 63V, 12A
  • L-coding | 63V, 16A
  • K-coding | 630V, 12A, 4+PE

 

In addition, these are available as several versions for the front panel-, back panel or PCB assembly as well as wire variants for wire cross-sections of 1.5mm² and 2.5mm².

Our M12x1-POWER-components were completely redesigned and are water- and dustproof in mounted condition according to protection classes IP65, IP67, and IP68. They are designed so as to meet the UL2237 requirements. They facilitate a large extension of power distribution due to a connection cross-section up to 2.5mm². A big advantage – particularly in case of DC-voltage distribution – is the low voltage drop in contrast to small cross sections.
